Peggy Earhart is the wife of an American editor, author, and public opinion analyst Barry Sussman. At the time of the Watergate break-in, Barry was the city news editor at The Washington Post, where he oversaw much of the Watergate reporting.

Sussman worked at a New York City advertising business after graduating from Brooklyn College with a degree in English and history in 1956. In 1960, he began his media career as a correspondent for the Bristol Herald Courier, a daily with a circulation of around 25,000 people.

After 16 months, he departed, then returned as managing editor until joining The Washington Post in 1965. With a team of 40 to 45 reporters, he was a state-suburban editor, then a DC editor.

Investigating Power, a website that covers recent American history features Sussman as one of the journalists profiled.

Sussman received a lifetime achievement award from his alma mater, Brooklyn College, in September 2011. Sussman was selected editor of the year by the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild for his work on Watergate, among other honors.


Barry Sussman was 87 years old and his wife Peggy Earhart is around 68-75 years old.

Sussman died of a gastrointestinal hemorrhage on June 1, 2022, at his home in Rockville, Maryland.
