When his mother attempted to flee a horrifying road-rage incident over the weekend, a 3-year-old Chicago boy was tragically shot in the head, according to authorities.
Mateo Zastro was in the back seat of his mother’s SUV with his brothers when a shooter started firing at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday in the city’s West Lawn district.
According to police, the mother of the young kid got into a fight with an unidentified driver after the family had just left a mall, ABC7 reported. What started the argument was not immediately apparent.

Police said that when the mother attempted to leave in her car, the suspect pursued her and began firing “multiple bullets” into the car. The young youngster was shot in the head and later declared dead at Christ Hospital.
Both his mother and his three siblings were unharmed. said Andrew Holmes, a neighborhood activist who spent a weekend with the distraught family. Andrew Holmes said: “That mother is still grieving. All she’s doing is clutching onto two dinosaurs … the baby’s favorite toy,”

For information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mateo’s killer, he is offering a $7,000 reward. Holmes said: “We can get these baby-killers off the streets,”
According to police, investigators are looking over security footage in an effort to find the shooter. They are seeking for a red Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger. Bryan Spreyne, the 8th District Commander, remarked: “Our vow to the child’s family and to the entire city is we will not rest until those responsible for this senseless and cowardly act of violence are brought to justice,”
“To those responsible for taking this precious child’s life: Do the right thing, the honorable thing, and turn yourselves in.”
The young boy’s passing occurs only a few months after 5-month-old Cecilia Thomas was also fatally shot in the head during a drive-by shooting. According to authorities, the infant was in the car with her father when a shooter started shooting at their vehicle.
