Several sites confirmed that a radio news anchor from Detroit, Michigan, was found dead on Friday morning following an attempted murder-suicide that left three of his family members hurt and in the hospital. According to the Associated Press, NBC News, and The Detroit News, Jim Matthews, a local radio station WWJ-AM (950) nightly anchor, was killed in an attack at his Chesterfield Township home.

Authorities claimed that after being stabbed numerous times during the argument, a 35-year-old lady and her injured 5-year-old daughter fled from the house before she flagged down a passing car to dial 911.

News Anchor Killed In Attempted Murder-suicide

According to NBC News, when police arrived at the location, they found a 54-year-old male suspect who had tried suicide in the basement as well as a 10-year-old child tied up in a closet with blunt force damage.

Authorities told the outlet that the suspect was a frequent visitor and knew the victims. The minors were confirmed as Matthews’ kids by WWJ-AM station, which also named the woman as his girlfriend.

According to Brian Basset, the director of public safety for Chesterfield Township, the kid was also injured but was in serious condition in addition to the wife and her daughter.

After the attack, she was seen “soaked in blood” sprinting out of the residence, according to the station. It’s still unknown how Matthews passed away. WWJ Newsradio 950 released a statement regarding Matthews: “There have been many tears shed in our newsroom today and Jim will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
